Jesse J. Baker, 46, of 3585 Ely Road, pleaded guilty in Holmes County Common Pleas Court to illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of methamphetamine, possession of heroin and possessing weapons under disability. He faces up to 12 years in prison on the charges and a mandatory minimum prison sentence of three years.
According to Holmes County Prosecuting Attorney Steve Knowling, the charges stem from Oct. 26, when Holmes County sheriff’s deputies and Medway Drug Enforcement Agency agents raided a property off Township Road 212. Deputies discovered a co-defendant, Charles R. Mills, 47, of 13210 Private Road 231, Nashville, in the midst of cooking meth in a garage. Chemicals to manufacture meth, trash associated with the production of meth, and a loaded .22 caliber rifle were found in a camper owned by Baker that was also located on the property.
Mills has previously pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing at the Holmes County Jail.
Baker has been incarcerated since his arrest Oct. 26. Visiting Common Pleas Judge Mark K. Wiest granted a request by Baker’s attorney, Andrew Kinder, to release Baker from jail on bond until his sentencing date.
“He needs some time in the community to get his affairs in order,” Kinder said. “He wants to take care of his camper...and his few personal effects, put them where they will still be when he is released from prison.”
The terms of Baker’s bond include orders that he maintain residence in Holmes County and be monitored with a GPS tracking device.
Wiest scheduled sentencing for March 4.
