Andy Wengerd

Bishop Andy E. Wengerd, 69, of Millersburg, died March 21, 2011, at his home, following an extended illness.

Andy was born July 2, 1941, in Holmes County, to the late Eli D. and Emma Wengerd. He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church, where he was ordained a minister on April 30, 1972, and bishop on Oct. 7, 1978.

Surviving are his wife, Mary N. Wengerd, whom he married Nov. 19, 1966; children, Sharon (Duane) Troyer of Willisburg, Ky., Carol (Levi) Troyer and Merle (Susan) Wengerd, both of Millersburg, Milan (Christine) Wengerd of the home, Ruth (David) Miller of Sugarcreek, Arlene (Ray) Mast of Fredericksburg, and Laura (Michael) Hershberger of Sugarcreek; 29 grandchildren; brothers, Roy (Amanda) Wengerd and Abner (Mattie) Wengerd, both of Millersburg, and Wyman (Esther) Wengerd of Sugarcreek; sisters, Mary (John J.) Miller of Shreve, Barbara (Eli C.) Miller of Fredericksburg, Clara (Dan S.) Yoder of Mt. Hope, Edna (Henry A.) Mast of Illinois, and Verna (Junior) Weaver and Katie (Andy A.) Miller, both of Millersburg; and brother-in-law, Raymond Troyer of Millersburg.

He was preceded in death by a brother, two sisters, and two brothers-in-law.

Services were held March 24, at the family residence, with Bishop Leroy E. Miller officiating. Burial was in Hershberger Cemetery, Salt Creek Township, Holmes County.

Spidell Funeral Home, Mt. Eaton, handled arrangements.
