Helen Keirns

Helen Keirns, 92, of Millersburg, died April 2, 2011, at Sycamore Run Nursing Home, following a short illness.

Helen was born Feb. 25, 1919, in Athens County, to the late Clarence and Mary Henderson. She was a 1937 graduate and valedictorian of Ames-Bern High School. She and her husband, Howard, farmed 10 years in Athens and in 1947 moved to Clark, where she assisted Howard with his business, the Northern Ohio Breeders Association through the Ohio Extension. Six years later, they purchased a farm west of Millersburg, where they resided until they moved to Sycamore Run Nursing Home in 2006.

Helen was a member of the Clark Grange and enjoyed canning, gardening, and crocheting.

Surviving are a daughter Margarette (Harold Jr.) Hanna of Shreve; eight grandchildren, R. James (Sarah) Klingler and R. Scott (Peggy) Klingler, both of whom were raised by Helen and Howard, Michael Hanna, Timothy (DeAnn) Hanna, Rachel (Todd) Day, Melissa (Jim) Borton, Christopher (Kathy) Hanna, and William (Heidi) Hanna; 18 great-grandchildren; and a niece, Lois Chadwell of Amesville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard L. Keirns, whom she married June 14, 1937; daughter, Mona Roberts; brother, Charles Henderson; and sister, Lucille Clester.

Services will be held April 5, at 2 p.m., at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, with Revs. Trevor Littleton and Gerald Craycraft officiating. Burial will be in Ripley Township Cemetery, Big Prairie. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m.

Family suggests memorial contributions be made to Millersburg Christian Church, where she was a member.
