East Chippewa Church of the Brethren, located north of Orrville, held its sixth annual Youth Fishing Derby, sponsored by the church’s senior high youth, family life and recreation commission and the witness commission, on Saturday, May 21, at the residence of Larry and Lysa Boothe, north of the church, and a large crowd with dozens of children attending with their parents and grandparents.

“At one time we had 122 fishing,” revealed Pastor Leslie Lake, minister of youth and music at East Chip. Two special golden trout were placed in the pond, with a special prize being given to those fortunate enough to catch them. Jason Short, of Apple Creek, and Marley Cupp, of Orrville, caught the prize fish and were each awarded a Walmart gift certificate. Each kid who caught a fish had their photo taken and a large photo gallery from the Youth Fishing Derby has been posted on the church’s website at: http://eastchip.wordpress.com. Attendees also had lunch provided on a sunny and warm spring day that was full of fun, frolic and fishing.
