The Café’s main focus is the use of healthy and local ingredients to cook seasonal salads, soups, and sandwiches. Café manager and head chef Jerrod Weyer noted, “This challenges us to be inventive in how we use ingredients. Our growing seasons require us to be flexible and plan ahead, but I am confident in the ability of the café team to create delicious food using local ingredients.”
Food for the café is sourced from Local Roots producers, and depending on the quantities available, the café menu may vary slightly from day to day. The day’s menu is posted on the Local Roots Market and Café Facebook page as well as the café wall, or you can call the market at 330-263-5336.
Café hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
The café kitchen was funded by a grant from the Ohio Department of Agriculture and built largely with volunteer labor. The kitchen will also eventually be available to Local Roots producers to add value to their locally-grown produce, and it serves as a stepping stone to a future commercial kitchen.
As a year-round market for locally-produced foods and other agricultural products, Local Roots Market is located at 140 S. Walnut St. in Wooster. The market is open Wednesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Membership is not required to shop.
