Born May 8, 1925, in Uhrichsville, Lena was a daughter of the late Constanta and Mary Vesco. She was a lifelong resident of Uhrichsville, graduating from Uhrichsville High School in the class of 1943. Before marrying and starting her family, she worked at Quimby’s Bakery, Uhrichsville, for several years. She then devoted her life to her family while her children were young, lovingly caring for her husband, children, and home. After they were grown, she worked for several area businesses including the Tappan Marina, Nichol’s Department Store, and finally for Family Dollar until she retired in the ‘90s. In her spare time, she was an avid bingo player.
On Sept. 3, 1948, Lena married Sidney “Dave” Mahaffey Jr., who preceded her in death in 1976. They are survived by children, Christine (Rick) Moore of Canton, Carol (Mark) Momchilov of Wooster, David (Cindy) Mahaffey of Stone Creek, and Sara (Bud) Flowers of Uhrichsville; grandchildren, Steven and Brian Moore, Conan (Jenny) Momchilov, Cory Momchilov, and Samantha and Michael Mahaffey; and great-grandchild, Cambri. Lena is also survived by her brother, Louis (Vivian) Vesco of Westerville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Josephine Andreatta, Anna Manini, and Florence Wires.
Services will be held July 14, at 1 p.m., at R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home, Dennison, with Rev. Harry Milligan officiating. Interment will follow beside her husband in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
