Old-time dance at Local Roots

Summer's here, and the time is right for dancing...in the market?

That's right! On Saturday, July 30, starting at 7 p.m., Local Roots Market and Café will host an old-time dance, with lots of fun for all ages. Local band Pocketful O' Gimmick will provide the lively, foot-tapping Celtic tunes, and dance instructor Susan English will call the dances, from contras and squares to circle dances.

Each dance will be "called" or taught step-by-step, so no experience is necessary, and dancers of all ages are welcome. From 7 -8 p.m., easier dances will allow children and families to participate fully, and the dancing will continue until 10 p.m. English describes the dances as "aerobic and social" and encourages attendees to "dress comfortably and bring your energy."

You don't need to bring a partner; this style of dancing encourages people to switch partners and meet new people.

There will be a suggested donation of $5 per adult for the dance. Children may participate for free.

A second old-time dance will be held at the market on Saturday, Sept.24.

As a year-round market for locally-produced foods and other agricultural products, Local Roots Market is located at 140 S. Walnut St. in Wooster. The market is open Wednesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Membership is not required to shop.
