What is Ruritan? Have you even heard of the Ruritan clubs? Ruritan is a national organization made up of local clubs in urban areas, small towns and rural communities. Their purpose is to work to improve their local communities, making them better places to live and work. Each club surveys its own community as to its needs and then works to meet some of those needs. As explained by Glen Davis, national director, “Ruritan’s mission is simple, though it requires effort and teamwork. Our mission is to improve our communities and build a better America through fellowship, goodwill and community service.”

The Dalton Ruritan Club recently held its charter meeting at Das Dutch Kitchen. Jayson Duncan, national president, stressed what a historic day it was, “one that will be looked back upon for years as the club celebrates its anniversary.” Ohio Ruritan Lt. Gov. Donna Bricker said she “could feel the excitement in the air.”

Dave Pickett, temporary president, led the inaugural meeting. Officers that will lead the club for the remainder of the year are Eric McFarren, president; Ric Arner, vice president; Goldie Yoder, secretary; and Larry Douglas, treasurer. Duncan thanked those who stepped up to the leadership positions, stressing that “they have the honor of being the club’s charter officers.” He handed out foam bricks and encouraged the charter members to work together to help build a better community to live in. He closed with, “We care---We share---We are Ruritan!”

The Dalton Ruritan Club will meet the second Tuesday of every month, at 6:30 p.m., at Das Dutch Kitchen. Visitors are always welcome.
