Dalton Community Historical Society purchases showcases with state grant

submitted photo

Dalton Community Historical Society members Joe and Vicki Slater and Lloyal Santmyer are pictured admiring the society’s new showcases. The society recently purchased 10 custom 4-foot showcases and a corner cupboard to be used in the building which houses the 1936 Reo Seagraves fire engine and the circa 1895 Schultz wagon.

The showcases will be used for specialized categories, including Dalton High School FFA memorabilia, scout memorabilia, items from Dalton restaurants, and Dalton High School trophies the society has acquired.

Purchase of the showcases was made possible through funding by the state of Ohio through the Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission. Along with the showcases, the funds enabled the society to purchase linoleum flooring for the existing restrooms. The legislators who supported the funding were Rep. Ron Amstutz, Sen. Larry Obhof and former Rep. Jim Carmichael.

An open house is being planned for a later date so the public may see the new acquisitions.
