Kathleen commented that she was “referred to Dunlap West through the transition program from rehabilitation services at Dunlap Community Hospital.” The smooth transition to Dunlap West allowed her to adapt and learn her exercise plan to continue to make progress from the services she received at the physical therapy department. She commented, “I no longer have knee or leg pain and my strength has improved as well.” She also went on to share that the benefits of exercise at Dunlap West have helped her keep moving, improved her strength and balance, and overall quality of life. After a recent visit with her primary care physician she was excited to share with us, “My doctor inquired to what I have been doing to improve my overall health and I told him I was exercising at Dunlap West. He told me to keep doing what I am doing because it is working.”
As for Lona, she began after hearing about the program in the community. Since then she has enjoyed exercising at the facility because “it keeps me moving, and keeps me young so I can continue to take care of myself,” she said. While she admits she does need motivation to get moving, the benefits of an exercise program designed specific to her needs and the professional staff have helped her reap the benefits of exercise and have made a positive impact on her quality of life. She commented, “My doctor says I look good on paper, and I want to continue good health habits throughout my life especially by exercise designed for me.”
Both sisters agree that exercising at Dunlap West has also become a part of their social life. Between the quality and caring staff and the members, many friendships are made which make it a special place to belong. Kathleen stated, “While we are typical sisters, we enjoy exercising together, and also it gets to be just like family with the positive social interaction with staff and members. The social aspect has been a great motivator to help me stick with it.” The success these sisters have experienced has not only made a positive impact on their health, but also their well-being and quality of life.
