Joseph was born June 20, 1923, in Wooster, the son of the late Bruno Sr. and Santa “Sandra” Scale. He married Lucille Cicconetti on Nov. 8, 1947. She died in 2002.
He was a 1941 graduate of Wooster High School and was a carrier/clerk for the postal service, retiring in 1979. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Lamplighters. He had served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was in the second wave of the Omaha Beach invasion.
Surviving are children, Kathy Scale Costello and Jerry (Sharon) Scale, both of Wooster; grandchildren, Anthony Costello, Joseph C. Scale, and Katherine E. Scale; brother, Bruno Scale Jr. of Wooster; brother-in-law, Donald Cicconetti; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by brothers, Dominic, James, and Anthony Scale; and sisters, Carmella Sullivan and Mary Snyder.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated July 29, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary Catholic Church, Wooster, with Rev. Stephen Moran officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Wooster. Friends will be received July 28, from 6-8 p.m., at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, Wooster.
