ECBI hosts Business Basics class

Would you know where to begin if you wanted to open your own business? Or have you recently opened your own business and wish you had a stronger foundation in operating your business? Main Street Orrville’s EntreprenOrrville Center for Business Innovation (ECBI) recognizes that strong foundations lead to a greater chance for business success and will offer Business Basics: Setting a Strong Foundation for Small Business Success beginning Saturday, Oct. 1.

In eight Saturdays, from 8-11 a.m., attendees experience a hybrid class of instruction and small-group exercises, with a focus on group work, in 15 foundational topics for any small business, such as: evaluating business potential, organizational structure, risk management, and managing employees to name a few. Business Basics participants will also hear from subject matter experts and fellow entrepreneurs along the way. Participants will use the knowledge gained in each session to craft a solid business model. The course is $299 and includes all materials, including two reference books, and refreshments each week. Main Street Orrville offers a $100 discount to those who register on or before Sept. 25. Also, in honor of the sacrifice of military veterans and reservists, there is an additional discount for those who qualify. Contact Main Street Orrville directly, at 330-682-0317, or director@mainstreetorrville.org for more information on the military discount opportunity.

Past participants have said that they are very likely to recommend Business Basics to a friend or colleague, rating it an average of 9.33 out of 10. Chris Lehman, of Akron, summed it as, “Overall it’s the ‘basics’ presented in a way that is easy to understand,” after completing the class. Belinda Vance, of InCare Personal Services, added, “I loved listening to the business owners sharing their experiences.”

“In working with entrepreneurs we recognized their need for the foundational knowledge of operating a small business,” explained Darrin Wasniewski, executive director of Main Street Orrville. “That’s why we are happy to be offering this course which focuses on the most important areas of business for start-up and currently operating businesses to achieve success.”

Business Basics is offered, in part, with support from Mennonite Mutual Insurance Company, Smith’s, and Wayne County Community Federal Credit Union.
