Russell Poulson

Russell M. Poulson, 84, of Marshallville, formerly of Wooster, died Sept. 16, 2011, at his residence, following a period of declining health.

Russell was born Feb. 28, 1927, in Sugarcreek, to the late Charles and Florence Poulson, and married Sadie M. Bonewitz on March 16, 1952. She died in 2010.

Russell graduated from Wooster High School, class of 1945, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He then worked as a police officer for the Wooster Police Department for 25 years, retiring in 1980.

Russell was a member and trustee of Trinity United Methodist Church, Marshallville, where he was active in the Men’s Breakfast and Happy Crafters groups. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Jelly City Senior Citizens, the Wooster Parkinson’s Support Group, and the Knat Boxers Square Dance Club. He enjoyed gardening, bus trips, camping, playing cards, and watching the Cleveland Indians and Browns. He and his wife of 58 years, Sadie, had a love of their community and church. Russell loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving are children, Alan (Jane) Poulson of Wooster, Terry (Diane) Poulson of Defiance, Tom (Cindy) Poulson of Smithville, and Mary (Ken) Jackson of Wadsworth; grandchildren, Glenn Ennis, David and Christina Ennis, Melanie and Andrew Poulson, Kyle, Eric, and Kevin Jackson; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Haylea, Trinnity, Aidenn, and Gavin; brother, Charles Poulson of Moreland; sister, Maxine Wirt of Moreland; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by brothers, Walter, Clifford “Skip,” and Rolland Poulson; and sister, Helen Kurtz.

Memorial services were held Sept. 21, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Marshallville, with Rev. Kenneth A. Moody-Arndt officiating. Burial with military honors was in Wooster Cemetery.
