For those voters who are unsure as to how, where and when to cast their ballots, the Wayne County Board of Elections is the place to go to find the answers.
The Wayne County Board of Elections website (http://www.votewayne.org) is a great place to start to get information about not only when and where to vote but also how to vote.
According to the information provided by the board of elections, the polls open Nov. 8, at 6:30 a.m., and will remain open until 7:30 p.m. for registered voters to cast their ballots.
For voters who may be unsure as to where to vote, the website contains detailed maps of the county and the cities of Wooster and Orrville that voters can use to determine their precinct number. By zooming in on the maps to a level of 100 percent or larger, voters will actually be able to see the street names within each precinct to make that task easier.
A list of the dozens of precincts that make up Wayne County and the voting location for each precinct, complete with a MapQuest link with driving directions to each location, can also be found on the website.
Because registered voters are required to bring identification to the polls in order to vote a regular ballot on Election Day, the website lists the acceptable forms of identification voters may present to poll workers before they will be allowed to cast their vote.
Acceptable forms of ID include a current, valid photo ID (such as an Ohio driver’s license, state ID or government ID), a military ID or a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government check or other government document showing the voter’s name and current address.
Voters who do not provide one of these documents may still be able to vote by providing the last four digits of their social security number and by casting a provisional ballot.
For new voters who aren’t familiar with the county’s voting machines, the website also contains an interactive voting machine presentation that walks the voter through the actual act of casting a ballot.
Voters can also obtain a list of candidates and ballot measures for the election before they arrive at the polls by visiting the website. After casting their ballots, voters can return to the board of elections website to watch the returns come in on election night.
While the website is a great place to obtain information, voters who still have questions about voting procedures and voters without Internet access can also contact the Wayne County Board of Elections by visiting its offices at 200 Vanover Street, Suite 1, in Wooster. The board of elections can also be contacted by phone at 330-287-5480 or by email at contact@votewayne.org.
