Smithville Community Historical Society met Monday, Nov. 7, at the Historic Church of God. President Harold Downey called the meeting to order. Joe Irvin led the opening prayer. The spring house has been moved to the Pioneer Village and will be placed between the Tin Shop and the Village Blacksmith Shop. Funds are needed for the spring house project.

Officers elected were Ralph Smucker, vice president; Curt Diebel, general maintenance; and Margaret Hostetler, publicity/newsletter editor.

Volunteers signed up to help with Christmas in the Village. All buildings will be open and decorated for the holidays. This event will be Saturday, Dec. 3, from 6-8 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 4, from 1:30-4 p.m.

The public is invited to the Dec. 5 meeting to be held at 7 p.m. in the Historic Church of God. The Smithville High School Choralettes and Debonaires will present the program. Members are asked to bring cookies for refreshments. Beverages will be provided by the officers.

The Sheller family provided an interesting program, The History of Sheller Meats. Sam Sheller, with the help of his siblings, Johnnie Jill, Mandy Lou, and Carl provided a PowerPoint presentation. It included the family genealogy, pictures of family members, the buildings used by Sheller Meats, and some of the items that are included in the Centennial Exhibition that is currently in the Depot Building.

Nancy King and Patty McFadden served refreshments.
