Phyllis was born April 20, 1938, in Pleasant Home, to Carl John and Hazel Clark, and at the age of four was adopted by the late Lester and Gladys Scheufler. She married Ronald Rex Raber in 1957, and he survives.
A resident of Apple Creek most of her life, she graduated from Waynedale High School, Akron Beauty School, and was a licensed managing cosmetologist. She also received an associate degree in applied business from the University of Akron and had been a secretary at The Will-Burt Company for 16 years.
Phyllis was a member of Salem Mennonite Church near Kidron and the Salem Homemakers. She also had been a volunteer worker for MCC Connections, Kidron. For 60 years, she attended St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Apple Creek, where she was a past president and treasurer of its Women’s Guild.
She was a member of the Apple Creek Lions Club and previously was a member of the Southeast Communities Lioness Club, where she was a past secretary and president. She had been a poll worker for the Wayne County Board of Elections and a volunteer for the American Red Cross Bloodmobile.
In addition to her husband, Phyllis is survived by a daughter, Renae Ruggles of Cuyahoga Falls; sons, Curt (Karen) Raber and Craig (Laurel) Raber, both of Wooster; and grandchildren, Whitney and Shelby Ruggles, Taylor (Brandon) Policicchio, and Kyle, Christian, Ryan, and Rylie Raber.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Leybold; and brother, John Robert Clark.
Memorial services will be held Dec. 23, at 2 p.m., at Salem Mennonite Church, Dalton, with Pastor Kevin Himes officiating. Family graveside services will be held prior in Apple Creek Cemetery. Friends may call Dec. 22, from 6-8 p.m., at Spidell Funeral Home, Mt. Eaton.
