Rev. George Johnson fills East Chip CoB pulpit Sunday

The East Chippewa Church of the Brethren, located north of Orrville, will have a special guest speaker filling the pulpit on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012. Rev. George Johnson of Wooster will be the guest speaker at the East Chippewa Church of the Brethren during the 10:25 a.m. worship service. Johnson’s message will be “Peace: What Is It?” based on John 14:25-31. Sunday school begins promptly at 9:25 a.m.

Rev. Johnson is a retired missionary who was with Grace Brethren International Missions for nearly 34 years. He and his wife, Evelyn, served on the field in Brazil during that time. While Johnson was on the field, he became a trainer of pastors and became the head field representative for several years.

Upon retiring from the foreign mission field, Johnson served the chaplain at the Church of the Brethren’s West View Manor Nursing Home in Wooster for 5 1/2 years starting in 1995. Upon his completion of serving at West View Manor, he became the senior Saints’ pastor at the Wooster Grace Brethren Church for 4 1/2 years.

Rev. Johnson grew up in the Wayne County area, including Wooster and Congress. He graduated from Congress High School. He did much of his theological training at Grace Theological Seminary in Winona Lake, Ind. where he received his B.D. and Th.M.
