Thirty area adults graduated from Wayne County Schools Career Center Adult and Community Education full-time career training programs recently.

About 100 people attended the graduation ceremony at the career center, which opened with a welcome by Lynn Moomaw, director of operations and adult education. Debbie Becker, financial aid coordinator, gave the invocation.

Melissa Schrock, adult development and career services coordinator, who also serves as a student adviser, talked to the students about success. She quoted great leaders, like Winston S. Churchill, former Prime Minister of Great Britain, who said, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”

James Charlton, a writer and disability activist, once said, “Don’t waste time learning the ‘tricks of the trade.’ Instead, learn the trade.” Schrock also quoted author Maya Angelou, who said, “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.” She concluded with a quote by Garry Trudeau, author of the Doonesbury comic strip: “Commencement speeches were invented largely in the belief that outgoing students should never be released into the world until they have been properly sedated.”

Sandy Elliott, adult education manager, recognized all students, mentioning their place of employment, special honors, and business or industrial certifications they had earned during their training.

Certificates of completion were presented by Dr. Kip Crain, superintendent, and Bob Reynolds, Wooster, and career center board member.

Kathleen Keplar was recognized for academic excellence. Perfect attendance went to Cheryl Medley, Sheila Summers, Deborah Davies, Cheryl Mendenhall, Melissa Mills, and Janice Thompson. Recognized for excellent attendance were: Catrina Burr, Chelsea Price, and Randall Hall.
