Brian Barrington, 45, 4716 Ogden Dr., was arrested on a warrant for felonious assault after he was picked up driving a stolen truck near St. Clairesville by Ohio State Highway Patrol Troopers.
Barrington is suspected in the Jan. 21 assault of his wife. According to Wooster Police reports, Barrington’s wife woke the morning of Jan. 21 to find Barrington stabbing her. Barrington allegedly stabbed his wife multiple times in the neck, hands and upper body before leaving her for dead.
While Barrington was in the shower, the wife attempted to leave their residence. Barrington, naked, pursued his wife outside and stabbed her again in view of neighbors.
Barrington took clothes from the residence and fled in a Ford Taurus. He allegedly stole the truck in Massillon and later stole a set of license plates that he swapped with those of the truck.
Alcohol and medication were found in the truck at the time of the traffic stop. Troopers stopped Barrington after he was clocked at 74 miles per hour on I-77 near St. Clairesville.
The weapon used by Barrington is described as a large kitchen knife. Several knives were recovered from the residence by police.
Barrington’s wife is reportedly in stable condition at an Akron area hospital. She and Barrington were married in 2009, according to court records.
In obtaining the warrant, the Wayne County Prosecuting Attorney’s office filed a felonious assault complaint against Barrington, according to court records.
Security measures in place since Jan. 23 at Wayne Elementary School were lifted after Barrington’s arrest. A child of the Barringtons’ attends the school.
