L. Jean Jacobs

L. Jean Jacobs, 90, of Wooster, died peacefully March 5, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Jean was born Oct. 15, 1921, in Rockton, Pa., to the late Oscar and Olive Dressler. She was married to James W. “Jake” Jacobs for 47 years before his death in 1990.

Jean was a graduate of DuBois (Pennsylvania) High School. In 1943, she graduated from Clarion State University. While at Clarion University, she was a member of the national sorority Delta Sigma Epsilon. After graduation, she taught two years in Medina and then one year in Salem, Pa.

In 1947, Jean moved to Wooster with her husband, taking time off to raise two sons. She then returned to teach at Wayne Elementary in the Wooster City Schools. There she taught third grade for four years and kindergarten for 21 years, retiring in 1984 after more than 26 years of service.

Jean was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Madisonburg, the Wooster Education Association, Ohio Education Association, Retired Teachers Association, and the Wooster YMCA. She was an avid advocate for aquacise as a way to maintain fitness, especially during her retirement years.

Surviving are sons, Steve and Chris Jacobs, both of Ashland, and Wesley (Ellen) Jacobs of Westerville; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph, Wilmer, Kenneth, and Lemoine Dressler; and sister, Maxine Brubaker.

Services will be held March 10, at 4:30 p.m., at Salem Lutheran Church, Wooster, with Rev. Bege Wiegman officiating. Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. Services will be held in Rockton, Pa., on March 11, at 2 p.m., at St. John’s Lutheran Church, with Rev. Mark Cantaral officiating. Burial will follow in Rockton Cemetery.

McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, Wooster, is assisting the family with arrangements.
